Amina Yasin
Amina Yasin is the Director of Public hearings and Urban Planning, as well as a fellow in urban planning, housing and public hearing democracy with the SFU - Morris J. Wosk Center for Dialogue, Renovate the Public Hearing program. Amina is a Canadian Institute of Planning award winning senior urban planner and a community advocate who has worked across Canada for over ten (10) years in community, land use and affordable housing development and planning. She has also presented on panels and as a Keynote speaker across Canada and North America on affordable housing, active transportation, aging-in-place and dementia friendly cities, policy planning, public engagement, with a focus on equitable, disability justice and human rights centered city building and planning principles.
Today, across Metro Vancouver and Canada Amina has been committed to strengthening, working and advocating across a diversity of boards, committees, and commissions. Amina has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy, and a Master’s of Science (MSc) degree in Planning and Development. She is currently the Chair Commissioner of the City of Vancouver Council appointed Vancouver City Planning Commission, a Commission established and mandated under bylaw and the Vancouver Charter to advise City Council and Mayor on planning and development issues that affect the city's future. Amina is also a Board Director with Hogan’s Alley Society (HAS), is Chair of the HAS Community Land Trust, and is also a recently appointed Board Director on the Canadian Network of Community Land Trusts, she serves on the YWCA City Shift Strategic Advisory Council, and is a Planning expert on the City of Vancouver Urban Design Panel as well as served as Co-Chair of the Canadian Institute of Planning Social Equity Committee.
Amina was recently nominated for the 40th anniversary of the YWCA Vancouver Women of Distinction Award for her community commitment and professional work, she has also been featured and quoted as an urban planning expert, across a diversity of national and international media, city and provincial institutions and advocacy outlets including the Canadian Urban Institute, an expert on the panel to the Chief Coroner of British Columbia – Extreme Heat and Human Mortality report, the CBC, the Tyee, The Guardian, The Vancouver Sun, Curbed, Streetsblog LA, Global News, City News, the Georgia Straight, the Broadbent Institute, Chatelaine and Briarpatch magazine.
Amina Yasin est une urbaniste primée par l'Institut canadien d'urbanisme, qui travaille depuis dix ans à travers du Canada dans le domaine du développement et de la planification des collectivités, de l'aménagement du territoire et du logement abordable. Elle a également participé à des groupes d'experts et donné des conférences partout en Canada et en Amérique du Nord sur le logement abordable, les villes adaptées au vieillissement et à la démence, la planification des politiques, l'engagement du public et le transport actif. Elle met l'accent sur l'équité, la justice pour les personnes handicapées et les principes de planification et de construction des villes axés sur les droits de l'homme.
Aujourd'hui, dans la région métropolitaine de Vancouver et au Canada, Amina s'est engagée à renforcer, à travailler et à défendre les intérêts d'une diversité de conseils, de comités et de commissions. Amina est titulaire d'une licence en politique publique et d'un master en planification et développement. Elle est actuellement co-présidente de la Commission d'urbanisme de la ville de Vancouver, établie et mandatée pour informer le conseil municipal et le maire sur les questions de planification et de développement qui affectent l'avenir de la ville. Amina est également membre du conseil d'administration de la Hogan's Alley Society, siège au conseil consultatif stratégique du YWCA City Shift, est experte en planification au sein du groupe d'experts en design urbain de la ville de Vancouver et a été coprésidente du comité d'équité sociale de l'Institut canadien d'urbanisme.
